Calculators About YouTube

Keeping personal finance personal.

For the big money decisions you only make a few times.

Thirty-eight calculators that run your actual numbers and count what usually gets left out: closing costs, PMI, insurance, taxes, and what the money would have earned somewhere else.

It's free and there's no sign-up. The calculators run in your browser, and the numbers you enter stay there.

No ulterior motive.

Most money sites are lead generation with a calculator attached. There are no advertisers here and no lender partners, so a calculator can tell you that renting wins, or that a rewards card isn't worth its fee, and nobody loses a commission.

Say you owe $350,000 on your mortgage at 7.5%, with 25 years left, and a lender offers 6.25% on a new 30-year loan with $5,000 in closing costs. The Refinance calculator gives three answers.

Monthly payment
$431 lower
$2,586 down to $2,155
Closing costs paid back
12 months
out of the monthly savings
Total cost over the loan
$4,863 more
after closing costs

The payment drops partly because the loan starts over at 30 years, and five extra years of interest cancel out what the lower rate saves. Whether that's a good trade depends on whether you need room in your monthly budget or want to pay the least overall.

Built on US rules

Many of these calculators run on US programs and limits: 401(k) and IRA contribution limits, Social Security, PMI, federal student loans. The loan, savings and compound-interest tools work anywhere. If you live outside the US, treat the retirement and tax results as a rough guide only.
